Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Waste Removal Brentford in respect of the financial year ending 31 December. It sets out the actions we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our own operations and throughout our supply chains. Waste Removal Brentford is committed to operating ethically, transparently, and with integrity in all business dealings.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Waste Removal Brentford has a zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, child labour, and all forms of exploitation. We recognise that modern slavery is a severe violation of fundamental human rights and we are committed to ensuring that our business and supply chains are free from such practices.
All employees, agency staff, contractors, and suppliers are expected to act in line with our values and to comply with all applicable laws relating to modern slavery. Any breach of this policy by staff will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter. Any supplier found to be involved in modern slavery will face immediate review, which may result in suspension or termination of our relationship.
Our Operations and Supply Chains
Waste Removal Brentford provides waste collection, recycling, and disposal services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Brentford and the surrounding areas. Our supply chains include providers of vehicles, fuel, equipment, uniforms, cleaning services, office supplies, waste processing facilities, and labour agencies.
We recognise that some sectors, such as logistics, outsourced labour, and waste sorting and processing, may carry higher risks of labour exploitation. We therefore focus enhanced attention and due diligence on these higher-risk categories.
Supplier Audits and Due Diligence
We aim to work only with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to preventing modern slavery. As part of our onboarding and ongoing assessment processes, we apply proportionate due diligence measures which may include the following steps:
Requiring suppliers to confirm compliance with modern slavery legislation and relevant labour standards as a condition of doing business with us.
Requesting information about suppliers' own policies, procedures, and training relating to modern slavery and human rights.
Conducting risk-based supplier audits, which may be carried out remotely or on-site, to review working conditions, recruitment practices, and documentation where appropriate.
Monitoring supplier performance and taking corrective action where concerns are identified, including requiring remedial measures within a set timeframe, or ending the business relationship for serious or unresolved issues.
Through these measures, we aim to identify and address potential risks of modern slavery in our supply chain and to encourage continuous improvement in labour standards.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Waste Removal Brentford encourages all employees, contractors, suppliers, and members of the public to report any concerns relating to modern slavery, human trafficking, or unethical labour practices connected to our operations or supply chains.
Concerns can be raised with a line manager, a senior manager, or directly with our management team. Reports can be made in confidence and will be treated seriously, investigated promptly, and handled sensitively. We do not tolerate any form of victimisation or retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith, even if it is not substantiated after investigation.
Where appropriate, we will involve external authorities and cooperate fully with law enforcement or regulatory bodies in investigating potential instances of modern slavery.
Training and Awareness
We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery risks among our workforce. Relevant staff, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment, and supplier management, receive guidance on recognising the signs of modern slavery and on how to respond to concerns.
We aim to integrate modern slavery awareness into our induction processes and to update training materials as legislation and best practice evolve.
Monitoring, Annual Review, and Continuous Improvement
This Modern Slavery Statement will be reviewed at least annually by the senior management of Waste Removal Brentford. The review will consider the effectiveness of our current measures, the outcomes of any audits or investigations, and emerging risks within our sector and supply chains.
Where necessary, we will update our policies, procedures, and training to strengthen our approach. We are committed to continuous improvement and to working collaboratively with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders to reduce the risk of modern slavery.
This statement has been approved by the management of Waste Removal Brentford and reflects our ongoing commitment to upholding human rights and ethical standards in everything we do.
